DUNWOODY: Well this isn't beautiful. In fact, I was shocked to see how this 2x10 joist (one of the boards that supports the decking) crumbled in my hands. From standing on the deck I would've never guessed how deteriorated the framing was. It was all bad.
We moved forward and ordered our materials from PMC Building Supplies & Stone Canter of Georgia Roswell.
This is the old deck that kept that dangerous secret I mentioned above. Notice the tree?
Bam!!! Tree be Gone and a new beautiful composite deck from TimberTech - we installed their White Radiance Rail System along with Antigua Gold main decking with Antique Palm borders from TimberTech's Tropical Collection.
Here we are starting the project...it was done earlier this year. Mucho frio.
BadBook BadaBang - We painted the outer rim boards white and the support posts and beams brown as you can see. The flagstone landing looks fantastic.
Our lead, Armando, taking a moment to assess progress and quality.
We also installed a GFCI electrical outlet.
The dark boards are Antique Palm, the lighter boards are Antigua Gold, both from TimberTech's Tropical Collection.
A nice corner view of the three main products...White Radiance Rail System.
In order for mortar to keep the flagstone together you have to pour a concrete base or otherwise the mortar will break easily. The concrete base prevents that.
This looks nice....
But this looks AWESOME!!!
A safe deck requires the appropriate galvanized hardware and lots of it.
This is thick 14 gauge joist hanger alone requires 10 structural screws. This is a great Simpson Strong-Tie product.
A moment from our sponsor.
Josue is installing regular joist hangers...each regular joist hanger requires TWELVE (12) structural screws. Both products from Simpson Strong-Tie.
This is a galvanized 6x6 post base. It's bolted into the concrete and as you can see it has 4 structural screws each side (8 total). Notice the posts isn't touching the ground? The base sits 1/2" above grade to prevent sitting water from rotting the post.
These little straps, called Hurricane Ties, are also a code requirement and need TEN structural screws each to secure them.
Gone are the days where you secured stairs to 2x4's....these straps take about 15 structural screws each. These straps prevent the stairs from separating from the main deck.
Coming together nicely....
CHA-CHING!!!
Getting it done....
AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL
We love the contrast the two middle boards provide.
You can see the middle Antique Palm boards next to Antigua Gold...nice subtle contrast.
Thank you, thank very much....
